malaria in the jungle of Indochina than literature. His book is somewhat autobiographical, although the action takes place at the end of the 19th century. The quiet and serious London tuner Edgar Drake receives an unexpected offer from the military ministry: he must go to the jungle of Burma to configure the piano of an eccentric physician who is trying to carry out civilization by wild mountain peoples through music. This trip changes Drake: he reveals the greatness and fullness of the world for himself, along the way, opening himself towards him. But, enriched with new experience, Drake is no longer able to return home, to his beloved wife and modest work. “The story of a trip to the jungle is existential, it rests on ancient archetypes as a world,” says Mason himself. – “The Summer” is akin to “Odyssey”: a book about wandering and return, about love and death, about how our character is changing under the influence of external circumstances ”.
